June 21 The Smithsonian Solstice and By the People Festival Celebrate Summer in DC This Weekend

Each year, the Smithsonian Solstice unfolds as part of the weekend-long By the People Festival, which ushers in summer in Washington, DC. Although the Smithsonian Solstice technically unfolds for one day only, Saturday the 23rd, the larger festival takes place today through June 24th and incorporates tons of special events, art installations, and other programs.

Come to the Smithsonian Gardens to experience Meditative Soundscapes, a different kind of DJ set that lulls listeners into a zen state. Or check out the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery's Freer Gallery of Art which will be open until midnight in honor of the special weekend. Even the National Zoo will stay open after hours, so if you want to see the animals, head to the zoo anytime after 6 p.m. for a meet-and-greet. Smithsonian Solstice and the By The People Festival have many other events in store, so check out the full itinerary to plan your weekend.
