With a name like The Pig, it’s no mystery what the specialty is at this contemporary eatery. The chef specializes in all things pork, from the charcuterie boards and appetizer sausages to the pork shank and grilled pork chops. Just a stone’s throw from our downtown Washington, D.C. apartments, The Pig boasts a menu that will delight any carnivore.
Sit down with a few fellow meat-lovers and order a round of Old Fashioneds to enjoy while you choose your starters. You’ll definitely want to order a few of the sausage to sample, perhaps the spicy jerk chicken or the Old Bay with dijonnaise. Just make sure you save enough room for a few small plates, too, like the fried pork belly buns and the Brussels sprouts Caesar salad. When it comes to entrees, again, the pork options are aplenty. The signature confit pork shank is slow-roasted for 12 hours in a citrus-herb pork jus and then paired with sweet potato puree and collard greens. Prefer brisket? Try the smoked beef brisket platter, which comes with cheddar cornbread and peach barbecue sauce, or the brisket ragu over pasta.
