You’re probably familiar with Octoberfest, but have you heard of OAKtoberfest? It’s a unique Washington DC event, sponsored by the US National Arboretum, to encourage locals to spend the day outdoors appreciating nature before the days get too chilly. This year’s celebration will be on October 26, and the festivities are scheduled to begin at 8 am with a 5K fun run. After the run the festival continues throughout the day with an artisan marketplace, food trucks, beer garden, and live entertainment (and don’t forget arts and crafts booths for the little ones).
Perhaps the best aspect of this celebration is that it takes place in the heart of the arboretum, where you’ll be able to enjoy the fun on a wide open field surrounded by tall trees in their full autumn colors. Head to the website for a map and a full schedule of the day’s activities.
